Overview:
Temporal rifts do exist in Etheirys, albeit rare, and one day, through one of them, a Voidsent fell, not far from Troia, deep in the void, long ago, long before Allag. He was lost, surely never to be seen again, only he was seen again, returned later, much changed. He had left an ethereal thing, perfect and fragile, on the edge of losing himself to his hunger and desperate for the aether that sang through the rift and called to him, but he returned battered and broken, years later, half machine, something never before seen. He had glimpsed the future, yet gleaned no meaning from it, no knowledge of a history he could change, uncertain if the world that had broken him was even the same one he was returned to, for many of the people looked different, and some of the races he'd known had been entirely missing, or perhaps simply not there in front of him. What mattered was that he had returned stronger, and not only in machinery. The things he had seen caught the attention of some powerful beings, and they had much to learn from him. He had much to learn from them, too, and when he had learned it, he left them dead and behind.Spades is the uprising, the control, the villain if he has to be, regardless of what he loses. He has played the cards a multitude of ways, and will continue to do so, earning his name and securing his place in a seat of power if it means that those who have seen what he has seen will be protected.Traits:
Spades is stylish and charismatic, and well aware of the power he possesses. He tends to hold himself with dramatic and theatrical poise, and his voice is clear and smooth, carrying well over crowds or music. In private conversation, he is soft-spoken, but friendly, prone to smiles and light jokes. He is always fidgeting with things, trailing his claws over objects or playing with spinning pens and card decks, and when he is on the job, he tends to be very controlled and hard to read despite his previously-mentioned smiles. When not working, he can be a chaotic but fun presence, wishing all to be comfortable, warm, and fed where he can manage it, and always entertained.Psychology:
Spades is autistic and has ADHD, complex PTSD, and bipolar disorder. He also had DSED, a disorder formed in childhood which causes him to be overly familiar with strangers due to a lack of close connections and care. This disorder is only recognized in children, but symptoms do not magically disappear when one hits eighteen, thus, he still has them in adulthood and they cause him trouble to this day, having developed into a tendency to swing between friendly and overly distrustful or even sharp due to having experienced some consequences to his trusting nature before. He has been known to get intoxicated frequently, take foolish risks, and lash out suddenly. He has bouts of obsession and self-neglect, as well as hedonism or social withdrawal, and has dissociative episodes as well as symptoms of OSDD, not a portrayal based on horror movies, but actual real-life experiences, which can be hard to notice.Physiology:
Spades has many scars, albeit most of them hidden, and a shake in his hands that renders him unable to use bows or precision-based guns. He uses a cane for a bad leg which causes pain and a limp when walking slowly or standing still, alongside unrelated back and neck pain and occasional stiffness. At times he wears contacts or glasses, however, he doesn't always need them. In addition, he often wears a leg brace on his bad leg to ease pressure on it, and his pain can be far better or worse from day to day depending on his rest, medications, and the weather (cold and barometric changes especially affect this, so he is likely to be seen limping more heavily in places like Ishgard). Often, quick movement is easier for him than slow movement once he gets past the stiffness, so he may be seen running or moving quickly rather than using his cane when it suits him. He uses glamours to hide his true state, where yet more issues can be seen.Appearance:
Spades's appearance is somewhat fluid, shapeshifting when it suits him. Typically, he is a slim but muscular man eight feet tall, with blue-grey skin, pointed ears, long horns, black claws, sharp teeth, catlike blue eyes, a long, muscular tail, and digitigrade legs ending in paws. His tail and horns are not scaled, instead covered in the same grey skin as the rest of him. When startled, he displays retractable spiny fins that can do some serious cutting damage if needed.Alongside his grey skin, he has a spray of darker freckles and curly white hair in an undercut, longest in the front. He has bright blue eyes that seem to glow in the dark, and typically wears black eyeliner to emphasize this, alongside black lipstick, typically without any foundation despite any other makeup employed, as he does not wish to cover his freckles. He has round, upturned eyes, full lips, long and thin ears, and a straight nose, a noble face faintly touched by time and laughter in the form of faint wrinkles about the eyes and mouth.Spades's clothing is often revealing, and often futuristic as he picked up on fashion of the future and brought it back with him, making use of Garlean and Allagan latex and technology, in return for kickstarting a movement in fashionable freedom in both places and eras, encouraging both open sexuality in clothing and complete modesty for those that desired either, so long as they made their choices out of genuine appreciation for their clothing. He takes this philosophy into his own appearance, decorating himself in anything that pleases him, whether it be bold and punk, or sweet and frilly, taking from lolita fashion (and incorporating its nonsexual history) instead. Regardless of his style for the day, his clothing is always finely crafted, comfortable, practical for movement, and his makeup always matching. He is also always thoroughly armed, typically with several daggers, a rapier and red mage's focus, a handgun, a few poisons, a taser, and likely more.Abilities:
Spades has temporal and spacial abilities beyond that of his fellow voidsent, capable of creating interdimensional spaces and bending time where he needs, though he cannot truly travel back and forth in time once something has happened, only bend the rate of things happening temporarily or create temporary pockets on the spot aside from the aforementioned more lasting interdimensional spaces, which require extensive upkeep and cannot be maintained solely by himself. Aside from that, he is capable of most magicks to varying levels of competence, his highest being red and black magic. He is also extraordinarily fast and strong, beyond that of mortal limits, able to throw or kick other people hard enough to crack concrete walls or bend metal ones, and fast enough to lose sight of him, though only in short bursts. Because of this immense strength and his own trauma, he prefers to use his magic, better able to control the power he puts into his spells and better able to keep his mental distance.He also has other powers, but those are to be discovered by others through interaction, and hopefully not by making him lose control.Likes:
Playful banter, partying, music, dancing, art, friendly people, substances, harmless or useful gossip, interesting or valuable information, stories, snakes, romance, sexual and romantic freedom, revolutionists and punks, jokes and puns, fashion, people getting what they deserve whether that be good or bad.Dislikes:
Cold behaviour, cruelty, censorship, ignorance, oppressive or restrictive politics / rhetoric / religion / groups, sudden loud noises, shouting, unexpected physical contact (just make sure he sees you coming!), peer pressure towards those who aren't ready for something.Present Status:
Spades works quietly, a neutral agent known both to act with and against Ascians and other powerful figures for reasons unknown, slowly expanding his influence. He has a long standing following now, but perhaps more importantly, many connections with those who can do what he needs, though they will demand fair prices from him.Warnings:
Seren is a victim of cult trauma, political violence, and sexual violence. His backstory is dark and intense, but he himself is a generally warm character, so long as the people around him do not act cruelly. Be warned that while he is a generally good person, he is very, very capable of violence if he feels the need to turn to it, though such things will of course be talked about ooc as they go.Relationships:
Seren has two adopted children, Bibi and Lizzie. He also has two cats and a few pet snakes, most notably a two large, iridescent black reticulated pythons named Nitor and Minerva, along with a rinkhals named Dreki, a rat snake named Kasir, and a somewhat irritable, large cobra named Diablo.Notes:
Whether Spades witnessed a different shard, a different FF setting, the future of the same world, or a different world entirely is entirely up to interpretation for now, though that may be changed as I finish Dawntrail as I am far behind. It is, to be clear, a cyberpunk futuristic neon dystopia. What is not up to interpretation is how he returned and the abilities he holds. I do know those, I just won't tell you, you have to interact and find out if you want to know <3
